Bonding with your Dog

Have you bonded with your dog? I have seen so many people lately who spend no time with their 4 legged family members. Then they get mad when the dog does not listen to their commands. If you think you could use some good bonding with a young dog, try to play chase with them. This is a great game that really will have your dog bond with you. This is one of the very first games we play with our search and rescue puppies. If you have an older dog, a simply game of fetch may be all that you need to do. However, almost all dogs really do like to play chase. Get out there in our "Cool" hot weather and have some fun this summer! Your dogs will thank you for it. Just don't forget to keep them very hydrated. If you are worried they are getting overheated - pour cool water on their tummy, get them in the shade or indoors, and get them some water fast. Time is important so they do not have a heat stroke.

  1. I have a wire hair fox terrier. He is the third one I have had. His name is Charlie and he is only a year and a half old. He is a ball of energy. He must think I'm no fun at all because we don't play 24 hours a day. He could.

I walk him at least a mile in the morning and a mile at night and a time or two in between (if it's not too hot). Then we'll play catch and fetch with the collection of balls and toys he has in the backyard. Like the ones before him, he is a great dog and a lot of fun to come home to. He perches himself on the back of the sofa looking out the front window and waits for my arrival every night. All the neighbors know him.

Maybe one of these days I'll get him a friend to play with while I am at school. Thanks for reminding me about my good friend.

  2. My dog likes to play Hide and Seek with me. He is getting a little old and hard of hearing now so we just chase each other.

  3. With my husband being at home, this little puppy dog gets so much quality time..it is unbelievable!
She is spoiled rotten, a total lap dog...she is in my lap as a I speak while on the computer. I have seriously given thought on purchasing one of those baby slings so I could have a little more freedom moving around. And believe me, this dog would be TOTALLY content being in that sling too.
